Removals to Belgium from the UK — UK to Belgium House Movers

Gentlevan Removals truck on a UK to Belgium removal

Removals to Belgium from the UK are the express service of our European route map. Belgium is the closest mainland EU country we deliver to — Brussels is just two hours from Calais, Antwerp barely 90 minutes — which means a dedicated UK to Belgium removal can be wheels-up from your UK address and unloaded at your Belgian door inside 24–48 hours. Part-loads start from £900 and a full house removal typically runs £2,200–£5,500, making this our most cost-efficient European corridor.

Brussels is a two-way city for us. We move British professionals out from London, Manchester and Edinburgh to NATO postings, multinational HQs, the UK Mission to the EU, embassy roles, and the legal and consultancy firms that work the Brussels ecosystem — and we run the same routes in reverse for end-of-posting return moves. Removals from Brussels to London and Antwerp to London make up nearly half our Belgium work. We also handle family relocations to Ghent, Bruges and Leuven, and the steady trickle of British-Belgian dual-citizens settling on either side of the Channel. Eurotunnel, Dover-Calais ferry, or both — we pick the crossing that fits your timing.

Gentlevan Removals is family-run from Oxfordshire, with three pricing tiers (dedicated, shared-load, part-load) and full post-Brexit customs handling on every Belgium move. The numbered inventory, the 12-month residence-abroad attestation, the declaration of residence from your Belgian commune — we prepare it all. Plus 2 months FREE UK storage for the inevitable gap between your UK exit and your commune registration. Belgium sits in our wider European removals network alongside France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal and Italy.

Three Ways to Move — Pick the One That Fits

SHARED-LOAD TO BELGIUM

Your belongings travel alongside other Belgium-bound shipments on the same scheduled run. You pay for the cubic footage your goods occupy, not the empty space around them. On the short UK to Belgium hop this is the most popular choice for 1–3 bedroom moves.

Best for: Flexible-date moves, professionals relocating for work in Brussels or Antwerp, anyone shipping a 1–3 bedroom worth of goods.

Included: UK collection, consolidated transport via Eurotunnel or ferry, Belgian door delivery, professional packing on request, 2 months free storage either side, full post-Brexit customs paperwork.

Collection windows are typically a 2–3 day band agreed in advance; delivery follows the route's consolidation schedule. Total transit usually 7–14 days from collection.

DEDICATED VAN TO BELGIUM

Your own vehicle, your own dates, no other stops. This is the option to pick when timing matters — your UK completion, your Belgian rental start date, or a tight handover at either end. Belgium's proximity means a dedicated UK to Belgium removal is often complete in just 1–3 days.

Best for: Full house removals, fragile or high-value loads, narrow delivery windows, anyone who wants a single point of accountability from start to finish.

Included: Fixed collection and delivery dates, exclusive-use vehicle, fastest transit (1–3 working days typical), GPS tracking, full insurance and customs handling, optional MoveProtect upgrade for higher-value items.

We can also handle weekend collections, overnight transit, two-stage delivery, and combined collection from multiple UK addresses on the way to the ferry or tunnel.

UK to Belgium Removals Cost — A Straight Answer

Most household removals to Belgium from the UK land between £2,200 and £5,500 door-to-door, with part-loads from £900. Belgium is the closest mainland EU country, so the freight side of the price is genuinely lower than for Spain, Italy or Portugal. The variables that actually move the quote are the volume of your shipment (cubic feet, measured at survey), your UK collection postcode, your Belgian destination, and which service tier suits your dates.

Move Size Service Type Price Range (GBP)
Part-load (1–2 rooms) Part-load £900 – £2,200
1–2 bed flat or house Part-load or shared-load £2,200 – £3,800
3-bed family home Shared-load or dedicated £3,500 – £5,500
4+ bedrooms / large house Dedicated vehicle £5,000 – £7,500+

Quotes include UK collection, transport, customs paperwork, ToR support and door delivery in Belgium. Packing service, dismantling/reassembly and MoveProtect cover are optional add-ons. Get an exact UK to Belgium removals quote online — most come back the same working day.

Two Crossings, One Short Run

Belgium is one of the easiest European destinations to reach from the UK. We use one of two crossings depending on the load and the timing:

  • Eurotunnel (Folkestone → Calais) — 35 minutes train-on-train. Preferred for dedicated runs because it's predictable and bypasses ferry timetables.
  • Dover → Calais ferry — better for larger loads and shared-load consolidation; more sailings per day means more flexibility on departure time.

From Calais, Brussels is a 2-hour drive, Antwerp 1.5 hours, Bruges just over an hour.

Working transit times from the UK:

  • 1–3 working days — dedicated UK to Belgium removal (any Belgian city)
  • 7–14 working days — shared-load to Belgium, depending on consolidation
  • 3–5 working days — Belgium to UK removal (dedicated)

Compared with our Spain or Portugal routes, UK to Belgium is the express service of our European network. Same care, far less driving.

Where in Belgium We Deliver

We cover all of mainland Belgium — Flanders, Wallonia and the Brussels-Capital Region. Most of our work clusters around Brussels (EU institutions, NATO, multinational HQs), Antwerp (port, diamond trade, business relocations) and the historic Flemish cities, but we quote for any Belgian postcode on request.

How a UK to Belgium Removal Works

Five steps, refined over more than a decade of European runs:

  1. Free no-obligation quoterequest online, followed by an in-person home survey or a video survey from your phone.
  2. Packing & export-grade wrapping with our own materials (if requested), before collection day.
  3. Customs file prepared — numbered inventory, residence-abroad attestation, Belgian commune declaration, customs paperwork.
  4. GPS-tracked transport to Belgium via Eurotunnel or Dover-Calais ferry, with mid-transit updates.
  5. Door delivery in Belgium, unloading and placement, plus optional unpacking and reassembly.

Optional extras include piano transport, professional dismantling and reassembly of beds and wardrobes, and short-term storage at either end if your dates slip.

Family-run since 2011, which means one point of contact from quote to delivery. We answer the phone and the email ourselves — no call centres, no handoffs.

2 months FREE storage in our containerised Oxfordshire facility is included on every UK to Belgium and Belgium to UK move — for when the chain doesn't quite line up.

Why Move to Belgium with Gentlevan?

Gentlevan removal truck on a UK to Belgium European route

We're a known quantity on the UK to Belgium corridor — the same point of contact most times with the same crew, our own vehicles (not subcontracted), and a route we've been running long enough to know where the awkward bits are. Here's what tends to matter most to clients booking removals to Belgium from the UK:

  • Three pricing tiers — dedicated, shared-load and part-load removals to Belgium, so you pay for what you need rather than a one-size-fits-all rate
  • Full post-Brexit Belgian customs handling — numbered inventory, 12-month residence attestation, commune declaration, customs file, ToR relief
  • Our own vehicles, our own crews — no subcontracted "white van" handling your belongings between the UK and Belgium
  • Move Assured and AIM accredited — independent industry oversight you can verify, not just a logo on a website
  • 2 months FREE UK storage at our containerised Oxfordshire facility
  • Optional MoveProtect cover for higher-value items, plus expert packing and export wrapping
  • 195+ verified five-star reviews, including UK to Belgium and Belgium to UK moves

We move British professionals heading to NATO and Brussels-based multinationals, returning Belgian-British dual-citizens, families relocating for work in Brussels or Antwerp, and businesses opening Belgian offices. Whether it's a one-bedroom flat to Ixelles or a five-bedroom house to a Wallonia farmhouse, the approach is the same: plan it properly first, then execute carefully.

Belgium to UK Removals — End-of-Posting Returns

Roughly half our Belgium work runs in the other direction: Belgium to UK removals for end-of-posting returners, families coming home for the school transition, and Brits who tried Brussels for a few years and decided London suits them better. The route is the same in reverse, but the paperwork side is different — UK customs handles arrivals through ToR1 (Transfer of Residence relief), which has its own application process and timing rules.

Who's Coming Home — and When

  • End-of-posting British professionals — NATO, embassy, UK Mission to the EU and multinational postings are typically 3–5 years; many returners book us once their successor's arrival date is confirmed.
  • Families timing the school transition — most plan the move-back for July or August so kids start the UK academic year.
  • Embassy and diplomatic staff — moves often have hard end-dates tied to posting handover; we work to those windows.
  • Brits who chose Belgium and changed their minds — the post-pandemic "is the grass really greener" return.
  • Retirees coming back for grandchildren or healthcare reasons — usually a calmer timeline, often via storage either side.

What's Different About a Belgium-to-UK Move

  • ToR1 must be approved before goods land — apply 4–6 weeks before the move; HMRC reference comes by email and we attach it to the customs file.
  • UK arrival is at Dover, Folkestone or via Eurotunnel — same ports as outbound, just clearing UK customs instead of Belgian.
  • Belgian commune deregistration — formally inform your commune you're leaving (avoids future tax complications).
  • UK property may not be ready — our 2 months free storage covers the gap; many returners use 4–8 weeks of it.
  • Belgian-bought furniture often comes too — IKEA Brussels, BoConcept, Belgian-spec mattresses all ship fine to the UK.

ToR1 — The Paperwork We Handle

Transfer of Residence (ToR1) relief is what keeps your household goods clear of UK import duty and VAT on arrival. We submit it on your behalf as part of the standard Belgium to UK removal service. The qualifying conditions:

  • You're establishing or returning to your main residence in the UK.
  • You've lived outside the UK for at least 12 months before the move.
  • The goods have been owned and used by you for at least 6 months.
  • Goods are imported within 12 months of your return to the UK.
  • You won't sell, lend or transfer the goods within 12 months of import.

Cars, Pets and Plants — What to Know

We don't transport vehicles ourselves, but if you're driving your own car back from Belgium, the rules differ depending on what you're driving. UK-registered cars coming back from Belgium need re-registration through the DVLA but no import duty under ToR. Belgian-registered cars are a different case — import duty and VAT may apply, and an IVA inspection is needed before UK registration. Worth speaking to a UK customs agent about a Belgian-registered car before you move. Pets need an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) issued in Belgium within 10 days of travel — the old EU Pet Passport doesn't cover return trips to the UK for UK-issued documents. Plants are largely restricted under UK plant-health rules, so most don't make the trip back.

Quote requests for Belgium to UK removals go through the same online form — collection in Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent or anywhere in Belgium, delivery anywhere in the UK.

Belgian Property Access — What We Plan For

Belgium isn't all flat motorways. Brussels and Antwerp have plenty of period townhouses where the front door, the staircase and the lift (when there is one) all conspire against a standard removal. The difference between a smooth move-in day and a difficult one is almost always in the last 200 metres. Send us photos of the access route when you book and we'll match the right vehicle to the job.

Brussels Townhouses & Maisons de Maître

The grand Brussels townhouses in Saint-Gilles, Ixelles, Schaerbeek and Etterbeek often have narrow staircases with tight 90-degree turns, period doors that won't fit a UK king-size mattress through them, and lifts (if any) too small for a sofa.

We bring stair-skates, mattress slings, and an experienced crew used to handling Belgian townhouse access. For top-floor flats we can arrange a furniture lift / hoist from a local Belgian operator — book this in advance, not on the day.

Many Brussels communes require a parking reservation from the local commune for removal vehicles, with around 5–10 working days' notice. We'll handle the request if you give us the address early.

Antwerp & Flemish City Centres

Antwerp's old city, Ghent's historic quarter, and Bruges's UNESCO centre all have narrow cobbled streets with tight corners and pedestrianised zones. A 7.5-tonne lorry physically can't fit some of them.

Where access is restricted, we plan a transhipment to a smaller vehicle near the address, and complete the final stretch ourselves. Some city centres also need a delivery permit from the local authority — we'll let you know if yours does and handle it.

Antwerp's diamond district and parts of central Brussels have specific delivery-time windows. Worth flagging at booking so we can plan the run accordingly.

Wallonia Farmhouses & Rural Properties

The Ardennes, the Belgian Luxembourg province and rural Hainaut are full of farmhouses and village properties at the end of single-track lanes, often with low gates, soft verges, or seasonal mud that nobody mentioned in the listing.

Our European vehicles can handle most rural Belgian access, but for the genuinely difficult addresses we plan a transhipment to a smaller van for the final mile. We've delivered to properties our customers themselves needed a 4×4 to reach.

If your property has been a holiday let, ask the previous owner what size vehicle has delivered there before. That's usually the most reliable guide.

Modern Apartments & New-Build Developments

Newer Belgian developments — common around the EU quarter, North Brussels, Antwerp's Eilandje, and the suburbs — are generally the easiest to deliver to. Wider roads, working lifts, dedicated loading bays, and parking that fits a removal lorry.

The watch-out is shared garage parking and gate codes. Belgian apartment blocks often have underground parking with strict height limits — usually 2.0m, sometimes 1.9m, well below removal-truck height. Make sure your concierge or syndic knows we're coming so we can park kerbside.

For finished but not-yet-handed-over properties, we can hold goods in our Oxfordshire facility (free for 2 months) until your keys arrive.

UK to Belgium Customs & Paperwork — What We Handle

Post-Brexit, every UK to Belgium removal goes through a customs declaration. The good news: it's well-trodden ground for us, and you won't pay import duty or VAT on household goods if your paperwork is right. The not-so-good news: getting the paperwork right takes a few weeks of lead time. Start early, especially the 12-month residence attestation and the Belgian commune registration.

Documents You Need

These are the documents Belgian customs will look at on arrival. We prepare or guide you through every one:

  • Numbered, signed inventory — every item with a description and value. We supply the template.
  • Passport copy with signature.
  • 12-month residence-abroad attestation — proof you've lived in the UK (outside the EU) for the last 12 months. Issued by an employer or a UK-based consulate/embassy.
  • Declaration of residence from your Belgian commune — issued and stamped by the local town hall, showing you've registered (or are in the process) less than 6 months before the goods arrive.
  • Completed and signed customs declaration — we prepare this.
  • HMRC P85 — your "leaving the UK" form, useful evidence for residency status.

Restricted and prohibited items follow standard EU rules — alcohol and tobacco are limited, fresh food and most plants are out, and prescription medicines need to come with the prescription.

Duty-Free Entry & the 12-Month Rule

Belgium grants duty-free import of household goods provided you meet the standard EU Transfer of Residence conditions:

  • You're establishing your main residence in Belgium (not a second home).
  • You've lived outside the EU for at least 12 months before the move.
  • The goods have been owned and used by you for at least 6 months.
  • Goods are imported within 12 months of your official change of residence to Belgium.
  • You won't sell, lend or transfer the goods within 12 months of import.

Belgium specifically does not grant duty-free entry for second residences. If you're moving belongings to a Belgian holiday home rather than your main address, duties and 21% VAT will normally apply.

Frequently Asked Questions about Removals to Belgium

Most full household removals to Belgium from the UK cost between £2,200 and £5,500 door-to-door, and part-load removals to Belgium start from around £900. Belgium is one of the closest European destinations from the UK, so quotes tend to be among the lowest of our European routes. The volume of your shipment, your collection postcode, your Belgian destination, and whether you choose dedicated, shared-load or part-load are the main factors that affect the price. Get an exact quote online.

Belgium is a quick run from the UK. A dedicated UK to Belgium removal is typically 1–3 days door-to-door via Eurotunnel or the Dover-Calais ferry. Shared-load and part-load removals to Belgium take 7–14 days because we wait to consolidate other shipments going the same way. Removals from Brussels to London or Antwerp to London follow the same timings in reverse.

Yes. Removals from London to Brussels are one of our most-requested Belgium routes, alongside removals from Brussels to London, Antwerp to London, and Bruges to the UK. We collect anywhere in the UK and deliver anywhere in mainland Belgium — Flanders, Wallonia or the Brussels-Capital Region. Same standards in either direction.

Yes — 2 months of UK storage is included on every UK to Belgium and Belgium to UK removal. Most clients use it because the chain rarely lines up: visa interviews slip, Belgian property completion is delayed, your buyer's solicitor is slow, or your Belgian commune registration appointment is weeks away. Storage is at our containerised Oxfordshire facility, fully insured, with no contract penalty if you need an extra week.

After Brexit, every UK to Belgium removal needs a customs file. The core documents are: a numbered, signed inventory of your belongings; a passport copy; proof you've lived outside the EU for the previous 12 months; a declaration of residence from your Belgian commune (or proof one is being processed); and a signed customs declaration. We prepare all of this for you. Household goods are duty-free under the standard EU Transfer of Residence rules provided you're moving your main residence to Belgium and import within 12 months of arrival.

A dedicated vehicle goes from your UK door straight to your Belgian door — your dates, your van, no detours. Shared-load consolidates several customers heading to Belgium on the same run, splitting the haul cost (typically 30–50% cheaper than dedicated). Part-load is for smaller shipments that don't fill a household — a one-bedroom flat, a few rooms of furniture, the contents of a UK lock-up — billed by cubic feet from £900.

Yes — and we run them as often as outbound moves. British returners coming back from Brussels, Antwerp and Ghent use the same corridor in reverse. UK arrival uses ToR1 (HMRC's Transfer of Residence relief), which has a different application than the Belgian side and must be submitted before the goods land. We handle ToR1 for you. Quote requests with collection in Belgium and delivery in the UK go through the same form.

Built on Repeat Customers

A noticeable share of our Belgium work comes from people who've moved with us before — the classic pattern is "we used you for the UK move years ago, and now we're going to Brussels for work". That kind of repeat business doesn't happen unless the first job went well.

We publish reviews from every move (the good and the bad), invite feedback after delivery, and act on it. There's no faster way to improve than to listen to the people whose sofas you've just unloaded.

Why Shared Loads Are the Greener Choice

A part-load or shared-load Belgium run carries 3–6 customers' belongings in a single vehicle. That's 3–6 separate dedicated journeys avoided — meaningful diesel saved even on the short UK to Belgium hop. We use reusable blankets and recyclable boxes wherever the move format allows.

Shared-loads are usually the cheapest option and the lowest-carbon option for Belgium. Win-win, when the dates allow.

What Belgium Clients Tell Us

Recurring themes from Belgium-route reviews: clear communication on the day, the customs paperwork handled without fuss, and the crew that turned up on time at a Brussels townhouse with no drama. We're proud of those — and of the quiet ones where the move just worked and there was nothing dramatic to write about.
