Our Barcelona Removals Services

At Gentlevan, we offer flexible service levels to suit every move. Whether you need part-load or dedicated Barcelona removals, we can tailor our services to meet your specific requirements.

Part Load Removals

Part-load removals offer an excellent solution for smaller shipments, for those without a strict deadline, or for those trying to save money. Your items are transported on a shared vehicle with other shipments travelling the same route.

This is better for the planet and cheaper than other options. With our tailored options, you pay only for the space you actually use in our truck, while still receiving the same high level of care.

Dedicated Removals

For those prioritising privacy and punctuality, our dedicated international move service provides exclusive use of a removal vehicle. This option suits large moves, urgent deliveries, and delicate or high-value items perfectly. We work around your schedule for both collection and delivery dates.

Packing and Export Wrapping

When moving either your home or your business, it is important to properly secure each item. We use stackable containers, waterproof materials, and other specialised methods to protect fragile items, including artwork/antiques/furniture, during the long-haul.

Additionally, our packing meets export requirements for Europe, giving you the peace of mind that your items will arrive at their destination in good condition.

Storage Options in the UK

Our UK to Barcelona removals service also includes a storage option in case you need it. We have secure, modern warehouses that provide a fully containerised storage solution.

Because moving can be expensive, we offer an exclusive 2 months free period. This allows you to use the time to manage effective temporary living arrangements, stage a relocation, or complete your renovations.

Why Move to Barcelona?

Barcelona cityscape at sunset, Spain

Hemmed in by the Mediterranean Sea on one side and scenic hills on the other, Barcelona stands out as one of Europe’s most appealing cities for people moving from the UK, and our guide to the best cities to live in Spain puts it in context. The city blends the energy of a major European hub with a relaxed coastal lifestyle. Its mild winters and warm summers make it ideal for year-round outdoor living, especially if you enjoy beach days, mountain walks, or exploring waterfront spaces.

Culturally, Barcelona is a vibrant mix of Catalan heritage, modern creativity and international influences. From architecture and festivals to food markets and local traditions, there’s always something to discover. This cultural richness is one of the reasons many expats choose to settle here, drawn to a lifestyle that balances work, leisure and community.

Alongside this, many people find that the cost of living in Barcelona can be attractive compared to other major European cities, especially when combined with the outdoor lifestyle.

Getting around the city is easy thanks to an efficient public transport network that includes buses, metro lines, trams and extensive cycling routes. Many newcomers appreciate that living without a car is not only practical but also cost-effective. Additionally, Barcelona’s large and welcoming expat community makes integration easier, with English widely spoken throughout the city.

Popular Neighbourhoods We Regularly Move Customers to

  • Eixample: Central and well-connected, with wide streets and modernist architecture, it’s ideal for those wanting city life with easy access to transport and amenities.
  • Poble Nou: Close to the beach and tech hubs, offering a mix of modern apartments and industrial-style lofts. This district is popular with both professionals and families.
  • Gràcia: Offers a village feel, with lots of public squares, cafes, and boutique-style stores, which attracts many expats looking for a vibrant community.

We also serve commuter-friendly towns such as Castelldefels, Badalona, and Sitges, which offer some of the best beaches in the area while remaining close to the city.

What a Barcelona Move Actually Costs

Most household moves from the UK to Barcelona land between £2,500 and £7,000 door to door, with part loads from £1,200. Barcelona is one of the closer mainland Spanish cities to the French border, so the haul itself is rarely the thing that moves a quote. The address is. A ground floor house in Sant Cugat and a third floor flat on a narrow Gràcia street with a lift too small for a wardrobe are not the same job, even with identical contents in them.

Move sizeService typePrice range (GBP)
Part-load, 1 to 2 roomsPart-load£1,200-£3,000
1 to 2 bed flatPart-load or shared-load£2,500-£4,500
3 bed apartment or houseShared-load or dedicated£4,000-£7,000
4+ bedrooms or a villaDedicated vehicle£6,500-£10,000+

Six things move the figure, and none of them is a surprise on the day:

  • Volume. How much is going, which is what the video survey measures.
  • Access at the UK end. Where the vehicle can stand, and how far things are carried to it.
  • Access in Barcelona. Street width, the lift, the floor, and whether a transhipment vehicle is needed for the final run in.
  • Level of service. A full pack, fragile items only, or you pack and we load.
  • Heavy and specialist items. Pianos, safes, large mirrors, garden machinery and anything that needs a crate or export wrapping.
  • Where in the UK we collect. A load leaving Aberdeen and a load leaving Banbury are not the same run.

Ways to keep it down:

  • De-clutter before the survey, so there is less to carry and less to pay for.
  • Consider a part-load or shared-load service, which typically saves 40 to 60 per cent against a dedicated vehicle.
  • Pack the standard boxes yourself and let us handle the fragile items, or hand the lot to our packing service, whichever suits.
  • Book as early as you can. Your written quote is the price you pay, but the runs fill up and booking ahead gives you the widest choice of dates.
  • Use the two months of free UK storage that comes with European removals if the Barcelona end is not ready.

The Route to Barcelona, and How Long It Takes

Barcelona sits at the top of the Mediterranean coast, close to the Catalan border with France, which makes it one of the shorter mainland Spanish runs from the UK. Loads travel by road, either across the Channel and south through France, or on the Portsmouth to Santander ferry when the sailing suits. Nothing is transhipped through a third party depot on the way, and the same written inventory travels with the load from the moment it is packed.

As a working guide, a dedicated vehicle is 3 to 5 working days door to door, because it runs direct to you and stops for nothing else. A shared or part load takes 7 to 21 working days, because the vehicle is being filled and emptied around your consignment. That is the trade: you are paying less because you are sharing the vehicle and being flexible about the day it lands.

The last leg is the part worth planning. Much of the city is too narrow, too restricted or too congested for a full size vehicle, so we run a smaller transhipment vehicle in to the door and shuttle the load out to where the lorry can stand safely and legally. If your street needs a parking suspension for loading we will say so at survey stage. Booking the bay is the customer's responsibility, though we can arrange it in advance for a small extra fee, and our guide to removal van parking permits explains how the systems work city by city.

Where We Actually Deliver in Barcelona and Catalonia

Inside the city we deliver across every district, and the difference between them is practical rather than geographic. Eixample and Gràcia mean narrow loading and small lifts. The Gothic Quarter and El Born mean restricted streets and a walk from the vehicle. Poblenou, Les Corts, Sants, Sarrià Sant Gervasi, Horta and Sant Andreu are generally kinder, with room to stand and a lift that takes furniture.

Outside the city, the same runs cover Sitges, Castelldefels, Sant Cugat del Vallès, Badalona, Terrassa, Sabadell, Mataró, Girona and the Costa Brava towns, along with Tarragona to the south. An address between two of our drops is usually still one job rather than two, so it is always worth asking.

Whichever it is, say the exact address at quotation stage rather than the nearest big name. The access and the final leg both affect the price, and both are much easier to plan from a video survey than from a description.

Customs, Paperwork and Cover

Relocating from the UK to Spain can be both a rewarding and bureaucratic ordeal. However, moving goods from the UK to Barcelona now requires extra attention to customs regulations due to the UK's exit from the EU.

If you're moving to Barcelona, you'll need to fill out the customs papers to prove that the objects in your home are personal and not business property. This includes basic documentation such as proof of residence, an inventory of your items, and appropriate identification.

At Gentlevan Removals, we'll guide you through the entire process and keep you informed of any regulatory changes that may arise, ensuring your move goes smoothly.

MoveProtect, our optional service providing increased liability cover, can be arranged before your move.

FAQs

A dedicated vehicle runs door to door in 3-5 working days. A shared or part load takes 7-21 working days, because the vehicle is filled and emptied around your consignment. Transit time depends on the route we take, the Portsmouth to Santander ferry or Dover to Calais and the road down through France.

Yes, we offer regular return routes from Barcelona and Catalonia to the UK with both dedicated and shared load options for smooth removals in either direction. Our guide to moving back to the UK from Spain covers the customs (ToR1) and timing side, and our Spain to UK removals page carries the prices, transit times and collection areas.

Peak times for Barcelona removals are generally at the end of spring/beginning of summer and the beginning of autumn. During these periods, it is best to book your move at least 6-8 weeks before your desired departure. Outside busy seasons, we can often accommodate shorter notices.

We understand that plans can change. That’s why we offer flexible scheduling and secure short- or long-term storage, allowing your belongings to be safely held until you're ready for delivery.

By video. Moves between the UK and Spain are surveyed by video rather than in person, so nobody has to fly out. Walk through the property on your phone, room by room, and send it to us on WhatsApp on 07861 930529, or book a video survey online. We price from what we can see, including the lift, the stairwell and the street.

This is the single most common question on Barcelona moves and it is routine work. Much of Eixample, Gracia and the Gothic Quarter is too narrow, too restricted or too congested for a full size vehicle, so we run a smaller transhipment vehicle in to the door and shuttle the load out to where the lorry can stand safely and legally. Where the street needs a parking suspension for loading we will tell you at survey stage; booking the bay is the customer's responsibility, though we can arrange it in advance for a small extra fee. Our guide to removal van parking permits covers how the systems work city by city.

Very common in the older Eixample and Gracia blocks, where the lift was added to a stairwell long after the building went up and takes two people and a suitcase at most. Wardrobes, sofas and bed frames come apart where they are designed to, and dismantling and reassembly are part of the job. Tell us at survey stage which floor you are on and whether there is a lift at all, because it changes the crew and the time rather than being discovered on the morning.

Pianos travel routinely on the same load as the rest of the household, see our piano removals service. Packing is optional and comes at the level you choose: a full pack, fragile items only, or you pack and we load, and our packing service and export wrapping pages cover both. We do not move cars or other motor vehicles, so a car needs a specialist shipper.

Yes. Sitges, Castelldefels, Sant Cugat, Badalona, Terrassa, Sabadell, Girona, Tarragona and the Costa Brava towns are all normal collections and deliveries on the same runs. If your address is outside the city, say where at quotation stage, because the access and the final leg both affect the price.

Most household moves land between £2,500 and £7,000 door to door, with part loads from £1,200. The full table, and the six things that move the figure, are in the costs section further up this page. The one variable that is more Barcelona than anywhere else is the address itself: a lift too small for a wardrobe, a street too narrow for a full size vehicle or a bay that needs suspending all change the labour on the day, which is exactly why we price from a walk through rather than a room count.

Common enough that we plan for it. The load goes into sealed and numbered containers at our own Oxfordshire warehouse, checked against your inventory, and the first two months of that storage are free on European removals. It suits Barcelona moves in particular, because a delivery into the city is easier to run on a date you have chosen than on a date forced on you by a delayed completion.

No. Oxfordshire is where the yard is, not the limit of the service. Collections run from Scotland, Wales, London, Manchester and everywhere between, and our long distance removals page explains how that leg is planned. It does affect the quote, so tell us the collection postcode early.

We do the preparation and a customs agent files the entry at the border. The foundation of it is the written inventory, which is produced on every European job regardless of who packed the boxes, so it is worth being accurate about what is going. Duty relief applies to a genuine transfer of residence and not to a holiday flat or second home, which catches people out on the Catalan coast in particular. Background is on the removals to Spain page, and export wrapping can be added for anything fragile.

It comes down to volume and how firm your dates are. A shared or part load puts your things on a vehicle already running the route, typically saving 40 to 60 per cent against a dedicated vehicle, and it suits a flat, a part household or a first load going out ahead of you. A dedicated vehicle is yours alone and gives the tightest delivery window, which matters for a full house or a completion date that cannot move. Shared and part loads are a European service only; a UK move always goes on a dedicated vehicle.
