Part Load Removals from Italy to the UK: Share the Vehicle, Pay for Your Space

Moving the other way, or moving a whole house? This page covers shared loads coming home from Italy. For moves out to Italy and full household moves on a dedicated vehicle, see our main removals to Italy service.

Gentlevan Removals runs part load removals from Italy to the UK for people who are coming home with a few rooms of belongings rather than a full house. Your things share space on our return run, you pay for the room they take up, and they are delivered to any address in the UK. A family firm established 2011, 210+ five-star reviews, Move Assured and AIM accredited.

Our vehicles come back from Italy after every delivery, so a collection that fits a scheduled return is one of the better value ways to move home. It suits a rented apartment, a partly furnished flat, a student or work posting coming to an end, or the pieces you want to keep from a bigger property. The customs side is prepared for you, and if the UK address is not ready yet your belongings can wait in our store.

  • Part loads priced on the space your belongings take up
  • Mainland Italy collections, north to south
  • Any UK address for delivery
  • UK customs and Transfer of Residence paperwork prepared
  • 2 months free UK storage on every European removal

How a Part Load from Italy to the UK Works

A part load is simple to arrange from the Italian end, and most of the work happens before anything is lifted. This is the order it runs in.

  • 1. Video survey

Walk through the apartment or house on your phone and send it to us on WhatsApp on 07861 930529. Film each room, open the cupboards, and film the street and the entrance too. Our video survey page shows what to film.

  • 2. Written quotation

You get a written price based on the volume, the collection address and the UK delivery address. Packing and export wrapping are optional and priced here if you want them.

  • 3. A place on the run

Your collection is matched to a scheduled return from Italy, and you get a collection window. If your dates cannot move, we will tell you whether a dedicated vehicle is the better fit.

  • 4. Paperwork

We prepare the customs file and help you with the Transfer of Residence application, which needs to be in before the goods arrive in the UK.

  • 5. Collection and inventory

Furniture is wrapped in padded blankets and covers, the load is built for weight and fit, and a written inventory is completed on every job, whoever packed the boxes.

  • 6. UK delivery or storage

Straight to your UK address in a delivery window we confirm with you, or into our containerised store until you are ready for it.

How We Keep Your Part Load Separate from Other Customers' Goods

The first question most people ask about a shared load is how their things stay theirs. The answer is two things working together: most shipments are physically divided from each other on the vehicle, and every item carries its own QR code from the moment it is collected.

  • A code on every item. At collection each box and piece of furniture gets a QR label. We photograph the item and scan it into our system, so from that moment it can be followed all the way to the delivery address.
  • Named, then checked. The system names each item from its photo, and we review the list and fill in anything that is missing, so the record matches what is actually on the vehicle.
  • Numbered at delivery. When your load arrives, the items are numbered and labelled with their QR codes, and matched to their photos and your packing list.
  • Scanned off at the door. Each code is scanned again as it comes off the vehicle, so the system records exactly what has been delivered.

It means you can check your belongings off against a list with a photo of each one, rather than trusting to memory, and every item has a record from your door in Italy to your door in the UK.

Who a Part Load from Italy Suits

A part load works best where the volume is modest and the dates have some give. You are not paying for a whole vehicle to make a journey of well over a thousand miles for you alone, so the saving on a smaller move is real. The trade-off is timing, because your belongings travel when the run does.

  • Apartments and flats. One or two bedrooms, or a furnished rental where only your own things are coming back.
  • A posting or a course coming to an end. The desk, the books, the bike and the boxes, without paying for empty space.
  • Keeping the best pieces. Selling or leaving most of a larger property and bringing home the furniture, pictures and boxes that matter.
  • Flexible dates. Anyone who can work with a collection window rather than a fixed day.

If you are clearing a whole house, or you need to be out on a set date, a dedicated vehicle is usually the better answer. Our main removals to Italy page covers dedicated moves in both directions.

Where We Collect Part Loads in Italy

We collect across mainland Italy. Cities, towns and rural properties are all quoted the same way, on the volume and the access rather than on the postcode. Telling us which part of the country you are in helps us match your collection to a run.

  • Milan and the north west

Milan, Turin, Genoa, Bergamo and the lakes. The shortest part of the run from the Alps, which often makes these collections the simplest to fit in.

  • Venice and the north east

Verona, Padua, Treviso and the Veneto. The historic centre of Venice has no road access, so tell us early if your address is there and we will plan the first leg with you.

  • Bologna and Emilia-Romagna

Bologna, Parma, Modena and the towns along the main route south, which sit well on runs heading to and from central Italy.

  • Florence, Tuscany and Umbria

Florence, Pisa, Lucca, Siena, Perugia and the hill towns and farmhouses around them, a long established British area and a regular part of our Italy work.

  • Rome and central Italy

Rome, Lazio, Le Marche and Abruzzo. Much of central Rome sits inside limited traffic zones, so the access is planned before the collection is booked.

  • Naples and the south

Naples, the Amalfi Coast, Puglia and Calabria. The longest part of the run, so collections here are fitted to runs that are already heading south.

Where We Deliver in the UK

Delivery is to any address in England, Scotland and Wales. Where your belongings end up does affect the price, because a load finishing near our Oxfordshire base is a different job from one going on to the far end of the country, so give us the UK address, or at least the town, when you ask for a quote.

How Much Does a Part Load from Italy to the UK Cost?

Italy is a longer run than France or Spain, and the price reflects that. As a guide:

Move size Service type Price range (GBP)
Part load (1-2 rooms) Part load £1,400-£3,450
1-2 bed household Part load or shared load £2,900-£5,200
3-bed family home Shared load or dedicated £4,600-£8,050
4+ bed home Dedicated vehicle £7,500-£11,500+

What moves the price

  • Volume. On a part load you pay for the space your belongings take up, so the video survey matters more than anything else.
  • Where in Italy we collect. A collection near Milan is a shorter run than one from Naples or Puglia.
  • Access at both ends. Stairs, lifts too small for furniture, a long carry or a limited traffic zone all add time.
  • The level of service. A full pack, a part pack of the fragile items, or your own packing with us loading.
  • Heavy and specialist items. Pianos, marble tops, large mirrors and anything that needs a crate.
  • Where in the UK it is going. The length of the final UK leg changes the figure.

The figures cover collection, transport, the customs paperwork and delivery. Packing and export wrapping are optional and quoted separately. You get a written quotation and that is the price you pay. How Long a Part Load from Italy Takes

A part load travels when the run travels, so it takes longer than a dedicated vehicle. For comparison, a dedicated vehicle is usually around a week door to door from northern Italy and a few days more from the south. A part load adds the time it takes to bring several collections together on one return.

What you get is a collection window when you book, and a delivery window for the UK address once your belongings are on the road. If there is a gap between the two that does not suit you, storage fills it.

If your move has to happen on a set day, for example because a tenancy ends or a UK completion is fixed, tell us at the start. A dedicated vehicle travels on your dates, and we will say plainly which option fits.

Coming home from somewhere else in Europe as well? Our return pages for France to UK removals and Spain to UK removals cover those routes.

Customs and Transfer of Residence

Moving from Italy to the UK is a customs movement in both directions. Your belongings leave the EU against an export declaration and arrive in the UK against an import entry. We prepare the file, and the declarations are lodged by the customs agent we use on our European work.

Both rest on the written inventory, which is completed on every job, whoever packed the boxes. It is a customs document rather than a packing list, and a clear one is what keeps a load moving.

Transfer of Residence relief

If you are moving your home back to the UK, Transfer of Residence relief means your household goods can usually come in without paying duty or import VAT. The main conditions are:

  • 12 months abroad. You have lived outside the UK for at least 12 months.
  • 6 months of use. You have owned and used the goods for at least 6 months.
  • Apply first. The relief is applied for before the goods arrive in the UK. We help you prepare the application.
  • Keep them for a year. The goods must not be sold, lent or hired out for 12 months after they arrive.

A holiday home is a different case. If you lived in the UK and kept a property in Italy, bringing its contents back is not normally a transfer of residence, and we will tell you which side of the line you are on at quotation stage.

We do not move cars. Cars, motorbikes and scooters need a specialist vehicle shipper. Pianos, bicycles and garden furniture travel normally.

Access at the Italian End

Many Italian city centres have limited traffic zones that keep larger vehicles out, and plenty of apartments sit up several flights of stairs or on streets never designed for a removal vehicle. None of that is unusual, but it needs to be known before the collection is booked rather than discovered on the day.

At survey stage we look at the items and the access and tell you what the collection needs. Where a full size vehicle cannot reach the door, a smaller vehicle brings the load out to where the lorry can stand. If a parking bay has to be reserved for the loading, booking it is your responsibility, and we can book it in advance for you for a small extra fee if you would rather. Our guide to removal van parking permits in the UK and Europe explains how reserving a space generally works.

What to show us in the video

  • The street and the entrance. Where a vehicle might stop, and the route from there to the front door.
  • The stairs and the lift. Which floor you are on, and whether the lift takes more than a person and a suitcase.
  • The big pieces. Wardrobes, sofas, marble or glass tops, and anything that came in through a window.

Storage in the UK Until You Are Ready

Coming back from Italy rarely lines up neatly with a UK tenancy or completion. Every European removal includes two months of free storage at our site in Oxfordshire, so your belongings can come home on the run that suits and wait until the UK address is ready.

They are held in sealed, numbered timber containers and listed against your inventory. Our own crews handle the move and the store, so it is one booking and one number to call from collection in Italy to delivery in the UK. Our containerised storage page explains how it works, and our packing service and export wrapping pages cover the optional services at the Italian end.

FAQs: Part Load Removals from Italy to the UK

As a guide, a part load of one or two rooms runs about £1,400 to £3,450, a 1 to 2 bed household about £2,900 to £5,200, and a 3-bed home about £4,600 to £8,050 depending on whether it travels shared or on a dedicated vehicle. The figure moves with the volume, where in Italy we collect from, the access at both ends, the level of packing you choose and where in the UK it is going. You get a written quotation and that is the price you pay.

A part load travels on our scheduled return run rather than on a date of its own, so it takes longer than a dedicated vehicle, which is usually around a week door to door from northern Italy and a few days more from the south. When you book you get a collection window, and once your belongings are on the road you get a delivery window for the UK address. If your dates are fixed, a dedicated vehicle is the better fit.

On a part load your belongings share space with other customers heading the same way, so you pay for the room your things take up and the timing follows the run. A dedicated vehicle is yours alone, travels on the dates you choose and makes no other stops, and costs more. We recommend whichever suits the volume, the dates and the budget once we have seen your video.

We collect across mainland Italy, from Milan, Turin, Genoa and the lakes in the north, through Bologna, Florence, Tuscany, Umbria and Rome, down to Naples and the south. Towns and rural properties are quoted the same way as city addresses, on the volume and the access rather than on the postcode.

Usually not, if you are moving your home back to the UK. Transfer of Residence relief lets household goods come in without duty or import VAT, provided you have lived outside the UK for at least 12 months and have owned and used the goods for at least 6 months. The relief has to be applied for before the goods arrive, and the goods must not be sold, lent or hired out for 12 months afterwards. We help you prepare the application and tell you at quotation stage whether your move is likely to qualify.

We prepare the file and the declarations are lodged by the customs agent we use on our European work. Your belongings leave the EU against an export declaration and arrive in the UK against an import entry, and both rest on the written inventory of what is on the vehicle. That inventory is written on every job, whoever packed the boxes.

No, the choice is yours. We offer a full pack of the whole property, a part pack covering the fragile items only, or you pack and we load. Packing and export wrapping are optional services chosen and priced at quotation stage. Furniture travels under padded blankets and covers either way, and bespoke crating is available for anything that needs it.

Yes. Every European removal includes two months of free storage at our site in Oxfordshire. Your belongings are listed against your inventory and held in sealed, numbered timber containers until the UK address is ready, then delivered when you say. It is one booking and one number to call throughout.

We check the access when we look at your video and plan for it before anything is booked. Where a full size vehicle cannot reach the door, for example inside a limited traffic zone or up a narrow lane, a smaller vehicle brings the load out to where the lorry can stand. If a parking bay needs reserving for the loading, booking it is your responsibility, and we can book it in advance for you for a small extra fee if you would rather.

No. We do not move cars or other motor vehicles, so a car, motorbike or scooter needs a specialist vehicle shipper. Pianos, bicycles, garden furniture, tools and the usual contents of a home all travel normally on a part load, so tell us everything that is coming when you ask for a quote.

Most shipments are physically divided from each other on the vehicle, and every item gets its own QR code when we collect it. We photograph each item and scan it into our system, which names it from the photo, and we then review the list and complete anything missing. At delivery your items are numbered and matched to their QR codes, photos and packing list, and each code is scanned again as it comes off so the system records exactly what has been delivered.
